The Trap of Funnel Flow (Core Flow): If a silo’s discharge cone is too shallow or features rough internal weld seams, the coffee will not move uniformly. Instead, when the bottom gate opens, a narrow column of coffee drops straight down the centre of the cylinder. The coffee sitting along the outer walls remains completely stationary. This means the newest coffee loaded into the top of the silo discharges first, while the oldest inventory sits trapped against the walls for weeks or months, slowly fading and drying out.
